Writer's Diary

A snow day is not a snow day, not in a world that desperately wants to slow down, but otherwise cannot let itself.
We—the secular, exhausted world—desperately needs failsafes, guardrails, against constant work.
Time is a preliminary name for the truth of being.
Tradition and the golden ratio are related: the arches of the body, the spiraling together of lovers.
Technologists cannot understand technology no more than priests religion.
Note I am on the assembly line of thought, screwing in rivets...
It’s worth considering that all famous people have made a deal with the devil. That every bargain is Faustian overtly or covertly.
Increased chaos, Entropy, is not liberation politically speaking. Free radicals promote cancer.
The point of advertising is to get us to accept artificial things in place of real ones.
Leisure and slow sensation are at least half the meaning of life.
Neurons in the brain should be like monks in a monastery, living together in an ordered, obedient, and prayerful way.
The unconscious speaks on us through the dreams it sends us, like a jealous lover leaving signs of surveillance.
Vitalism, the study of what makes something alive, will be the most important field of scientific consciousness inquiry in the next ten or fifteen years; we will need to know if machines are alive, and we’ll discover more about animal language, thought, and feeling than we would have thought possible. Old ontological boundaries will dissolve.
Packing up the Huron Street space this week. Three years of my life in the theater. In other words, moving to a new theater. I feel nervous about it, and I just want to get it over with. I don’t really want to think that much about the past or the future for that matter. I’d like the present to be fully illuminated, fully accessible, crucial.
In every domain, I’m ready for a new era, not just my theater life, but in my creative life, my love life, my social life.
