First you know the world and then you can start to change it… in theory… but I think the more you change it, the more you actually begin to know it. You get closer to nature once nature recognizes you as an agent, an opponent, something to be reckoned with. Then it shows it’s truer faces.
I'm a little skeptical of how popular literature and literary life seem on Twitter—because it really does seem like being a writer has become a commodity and that writing products are something very different from books (in the same way that margarine and Crisco are very different than butter). These well-meaning, well-considered, well-constructed, well-edited, clever word-things with cool covers and cool blurbs and cool people, well-reviewed and displayed—are these commodities really works of art?
